New Lip Loves || Mac Faux Lipstick and Soar Lip Pencil.

I wont lie, the main reason I purchased both of these products is purely because of Kylie Jenner. We've all been obsessed by her lips recently, whether it's because you love her 'your lips, but way better' shade, the shape and way she outlines her lips or you're just curious about whether she's had fillers or not. Regardless, you can't dispute that her pout hasn't caused a stir because her main loves 'Whirl' lip pencil and 'Velvet Teddy' lipstick, both from Mac, have been sold out everywhere for weeks. I couldn't find either shades, but I settled on what I found to be the closest match. So I introduce to you my two new favourite make up products, 'Soar' lip pencil and 'Faux' satin finish lipstick. I'm quite happy with the shape of my lips and size, so I just outline them as you would normally, however, if you wanted to add a little K Jenner plumpness, lightly overline your lips on the sides and bottom lip but keep the cupids bow as usual as it's the most defined part of your lip and it'll really show if you've gone overboard. The main reason for my latest love interest? The combination makes for a long lasting smudge free duo and the shade makes your lips stand out and look larger than they are.

High End Beauty Haul

A recent visit to a local Department store always starts with an innocent wander, maybe a few swatches, an 'Oh ok, I'll just buy one treat' and then I become an unstoppable shopping monster.
So, what did I pick up?
Estee Lauder's Double Wear Mascara, this came in a set with a moisturiser and make up remover sample, so far it's a winner for the bottom lashes if smudging is an issue!
YSL Touche Eclait which is a cult product with Bloggers and YouTubers alike, I've yet to try this but when I do I'll report back on whether it's worth the splurge.
Ren's Resurfacing AHA Concentrate which exfoliates the skin, leaving you with smoother skin and a more radiant finish - or at least that's what they claim!
Mac 'Style' powder blush, a gorgeous peachy pink with golden shimmer which looks amazing with a tan.
Mac 'Blanc Type' eyeshadow, a matte ivory shade that really opens up the eye, ideal for a neutrals palette.
Mac 'Cherry' lip liner, another hyped product, it's a classic red which works well with most shades of red lipstick, it's creamy, pigmented with a matte finish.
Mac 'Blankety' lipstick, a pretty pale pink, I love nudes and this was a must have when I spotted it on the counter.
Mac Prep and Prime Highlighter in 'Light Boost', similar to the YSL touche eclait, adding radiance to the face and brightening areas.
Mac Zoom Lash mascara - having never tried a mascara from Mac this was a last minute grab at the till, I've yet to try it out but I've heard many good things.

And there's everything I purchased on my shopping spree and my lame excuses as to why I needed each item, isn't there always a reason why? haha. Let me know if you'd like any of these products reviewed!

Pay Day Treats

I have no self restraint.

As soon as pay day came around I was straight on the Debenhams website placing an order, I'm unable to control my shopping urges - obviously. I've brought a lot of new products recently, so I'll spread the hauls out across a few blog posts and here's the first installment - hello Mac.
The first product I popped in my basket was the new Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation because of all the hype surrounded by it. Wayne Goss, YouTube extraordinaire raved about this recently so therefore I had to get it. I got this and all other face products in NC25, in case you were wondering and this is the ideal shade for when I've applied fake tan.
Another product I'd wanted to try was the Mac Studio Tech foundation which I've been eyeing up for a while now. This offers full coverage and leaves an airbrushed finish, for some it would definitely be too heavy but I love it so far! I've also been lusting after the Full Coverage foundation but as far as I'm aware you need a Mac Pro card to be able to get your hands on that?
I also got the Mac Studio Fix Plus Powder which I've seen mentioned on multiple beauty blogs recently, it adds a little extra coverage and has a beautiful satin finish - definitely one of the best powders I've used in a while.
And finally, the last few products I decided to get were the Philosophy BB cream which has rave reviews on the Boots website, a clear Mac Brow Set and two of the Mineralize lipsticks in 'Everyday Diva' and 'Natural Luxe'.
So far I'm not massively excited by the Philosophy BB Cream, or the Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation as they've both not lived up to the hype but I adore everything else. Full reviews to come!

Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend, I'll be stuck at work but I'm sure when I look on Twitter or Instagram at what others are up to I'll be able to live vicariously through them, haha!

The Perfect Nude Lipstick

Natural Collection Lipstick, 'Apple Blossom' £1.99
Mac 'Naked' Lip Pencil, £11.50

I know quite a few people steer clear of nude lipsticks because they fear the dreaded concealer lip effect, but for me reds and nude's suit my skin tone. When I was a teenager, I will admit for a good six months I did use a foundation to conceal my lips - yes, I'm aware not a good look, plus re-application must of looked ridiculous. However I've always disliked my pigmented pink lips and much prefer to tone them down for a softer, girly overall effect with my make up. I discovered the Natural Collection 'Apple Blossom' lipstick after I saw a review on Youtube and have re-purchased ever since. At £1.99 it's an absolute bargain, especially as it's supposed to be a dupe for Mac's 'Fleshpot'.
I tend to find matte finishes with nude lipsticks can be slightly unflattering, especially on dry lips! So I love that this lipstick has a Satin finish, it's incredibly pigmented and creamy - although this can be a downfall as I have had a few snap off, but for under £2 you can easily afford to pick up a brand new one if this happens. Unlike Mac lipsticks, the Natural Collection line doesn't have a scent to them and understandably for the price the packaging is minimalist and simple. I find this lipstick has quite a strong pink undertone which I much prefer over peach or orange hue's like Revlon's 'Nude Attitude'.
For extra longevity I tend to pair this lipstick with Mac's 'Naked' lip liner which helps the lipstick adhere and really stay in place. I wouldn't suggest to use this alone as it's a matte finish and very drying on the lips.

What's your favourite nude lipstick?

Mac Treats

Everyone needs a treat every now and then, right? I'd had my eye on the Pro Sculpting Cream since I saw a photo posted on Instagram a good few weeks ago and when I finally caved and couldn't resist any longer I went to my local counter to pick one up. The sales assistant had reeled me in, sold me on the shade 'Coffee Walnut' and then just as I was about to make the purchase, told me it was out of stock.. urgh. Luckily though after scouring a few websites I managed to find it on Debenhams and swiftly placed my order, popping 'Girl About Town' in to my virtual basket at the last moment.

The Pro Sculpting Cream's are creamy and incredibly pigmented so you literally need the tiniest amount of product. The shade 'Coffee Walnut' is a deep brown, with olive/ashy undertones which looks a bit intimidating in the pan and when swatched but if used sparingly creates an amazing sculpted cheek. Since discovering Sandra's blog and in particular this blog post I've ordered the shade 'Accentuate' as well to try out her Kardashian-esque contouring/highlight technique.
'Girl About Town' was a last minute decision, I've been uhmming and ahhing over whether to get it after seeing it on Kayleigh's blog as it's not a colour I'd usually go for but I decided to get it anyway! It's a gorgeous deep, fuschia pink and I've really fallen for this lipstick, even if I never wear it out it's pretty and I can wear it around the house and feel like a diva! I also picked up an eyeshadow in the shade 'Cranberry' which I completely forgot to include, but I'll let that have a whole blog post to itself some other time. This was also a purchase made after reading Kayleigh's blog. Enabler! Enabler! Whoever's just employed her for a marketing/research job has picked the right girl because she sure knows how to sell a product!

Have you treated yourself recently?

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in 'Soft and Gentle'

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in 'Soft and Gentle'
£21.50
'A luxurious velvet-soft powder with high-frost metallic finish. Smoothes on: adds buffed-up highlights to cheeks, brows, anywhere on the body: provides an ultra-deluxe polish to the skin.'

For the longest time I had absolutely no interest in highlighter. I've always had combination/oily skin but hated my skin to look dry and cakey so steered clear of setting my make up with powder, and would never want to add more shine. Oh how naive I was.
Fast forward a few years and I now realise that all you need is to find the right foundation and powder combinations that look natural together. Especially in Summer, I tend to stick to matte skin and add in a glow with a highlighter. I recently picked up the Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Highlighter in 'Soft and Gentle' and it's become a firm favourite. I do find the product description slightly scary (high-frost metallic finish?!) and I do have to admit, in the pan it does look packed full of shimmer but on the skin it adds a beautiful luminosity. I don't find this to look frosty or glittery, it just adds a gorgeous radiant effect which, paired with a bronzer, leaves you looking like a Bronzed Goddess.
I would advise to be light handed with this product, you literally need to tap your brush in once and then dust along the cheekbones, or wherever you want a highlight. I've no doubt this will last me ages, more than likely a good year or so as you only need the smallest amount.
Just to give you an idea of the type of highlighters I like, I also adore the Bourjois Highlighting Powder, Illamasqua Gleam Cream 'Aurora' and Jemma Kidd's Dewy Glow 'Iced Gold'. I didn't like the Highlighting Powder in the Sleek Duo as I found it far too glittery and frosty!

Mac 'Russian Red'

Mac 'Russian Red', Matte Finish - £14

Mac has created an amazing buzz around their name, I remember watching Youtube videos and reading blog posts about their products, leaving me lusting after the items mentioned. It wasn't until I got my first part time job that I could afford my first Mac product, a lipstick - 'Myth'. When I made my first purchase, their lipsticks retailed for £12.50 which I thought was the perfect price, they remained a luxury item but they were still affordable to most. Now, they retail for £14 which I'm slightly miffed at as they haven't updated the packaging, re-formulated or added to the amount of product you receive - all they've done is bump up the price.
However, pricing aside, the quality of the Mac's lipsticks are undeniably good. They're incredibly pigmented, smooth and come in a variety of finishes - all vanilla scented just to add an extra touch of luxury. The packaging of most Mac products are classic, sleek and they definitely look high end, I'm always happy to whip a Mac lipstick out my bag.
As for the lipstick featured today, 'Russian Red' this is undoubtedly my favourite red lipstick. For me, this is the perfect 'Old Hollywood' red that works well if I'm pale, or tanned. I'm incredibly picky with products, so to be hailed as a favourite by me means it has to be flawless.
So what qualities does a red lipstick need to have to be labelled 'flawless'? They have to be.. rich in colour, pigmented, work well with different skin tones, photograph well, matte finish, long wearing, smooth and easy to apply.
For me, this ticks every single box.

Current Favourites

Burt's Bees Beeswax & Banana Hand Cream, £9.99 - I've only recently discovered Burt's Bees products and my first two purchases were this hand cream and their Grapefruit lip balm (which is also lovely!). Although slightly pricey for the amount of product you get, this hand cream is really rich, creamy and a small amount really hydrates the skin. I love the packaging, it's very sweet and simple plus the scent is amazing - it reminds me of the Body Shop's Banana Shampoo and Conditioner.
Avene Thermal Spring Water, £3.50 - Most of my Summer has been spent indoors at work in a hot, stuffy kitchen and this has been a life saver. You know when you reach the point where you're so hot you're tempted to dunk your head in a sink of ice cold water? (just me?) Well this gives you a cold, light refreshing mist - fragrance free and it's small enough to fit in your bag.
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, £4.19 - This has been a favourite of mine for months! I've used up two, keep one in my bag and have one at home - for under £5 you can't really go wrong. It has quite a limited colour range but if you can find a match it offers full coverage and blends like a dream!
St.Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub, £1 - This is just a travel size for when I'm away but I really love this and it's just as good as Benefit's Facial Polish! A big bottle is only £3-4, it has lots of tiny beads in which give your skin a really good exfoliation, leave the skin soft and get rid of dry patches.
Urban Decay Primer Potion, 'Eden', £14.50 - This and Mac's 'Painterly' Paint Pot are my two favourite primers. I hate the Original Primer Potion but 'Eden' is a light beige colour which covers any veins on my eyelids and makes my eyeshadow last all day.
Collection 2000 Extreme Felt Tip Liner, £2-3 - This is a great eyeliner for beginners, not only is it cheap it's also pigmented, incredibly easy to apply and lasts all day for me!
Nars Matte Lipstick, 'Madere', £18.50 - These lipsticks are no doubt expensive and I'm not going to make a habit out of purchasing them as I think the amount of product you get for the price is outrageous. That being said, they're lovely lipsticks - pigmented, smooth and creamy plus, this could be the perfect nude. It is slightly drying but if you exfoliate your lips beforehand and don't apply too much it's fine.
The Balm Bahama Mama, £15 - I find this to be the perfect shade of bronzer for me. It's completely matte, very pigmented and I never have a problem blending this in to the skin. This adds depth to my face, a bit of colour and the packaging is adorable!
Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow, Iced Gold, £17.00 - When I first opened this I was massively disappointed, in the pan it looks very shimmery - almost glittery and I thought it would be a total write off. Lucky, I was wrong! Somehow when applied to the skin this turns in to the most beautiful product that adds luminosity and gives you a gorgeous glow - no glitter particles and only slightly shimmery. Just lovely!

Mac 'Harmony' Review

Buy at: Mac, Debenhams.
Price: £17.50

I've never really understood how people could rate bronzer so highly. Sure, I own a few - I use them on occasion, but I'd never of said that bronzer would be a must have. I've tried a few with shimmer, some that were matte, cheap, high end but none ever wowed me. I quite enjoy Benefit's 'Hoola' and I'd probably consider re-purchasing but I don't find contouring an every day essential if I'm in a rush.

Mac's 'Harmony' however seems be a unique shade of brown that has a warm, slightly red undertone that looks really natural on my skin tone and just seems to make contouring - effortless. Instead of creating a really noticeable shadow, it subtly defines your face whilst warming up your skin tone at the same time. I normally use this with either the 109 or 168 brush and with circular motions blend in to the skin where I want to create a slight shadow, or where the sun would naturally hit.
I've used this nearly every day since I brought it and you wouldn't even be able to tell by looking at the product. It's pigmented, blends easily, matte, I adore Mac packaging and for £17.50 I don't think it's too outrageously priced. Plus, if it's good enough to be used by the PixiWoo sisters and Tanya Burr, it's good enough for me!

What's your favourite bronzing powder at the moment?

Mac 'Painterly' Paint Pot

Availability: Permanent Collection. Available at Mac Counters or on their website.
Price: £13.50
Description: A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. The next generation of a popular Mac formula. Paint Pots maintain all the intense traits of it's inspiration. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with Mac shadows or liners. Available in satin, cream, frost and pearl formulas.

After watching numerous videos on Youtube, featuring Mac Paint Pots I decided I needed to pick one up to see what the fuss was all about. I originally wanted 'Bare Study', described as a 'soft beige, with gold pearl' but found it to be far too shimmery for an everyday natural look so settled on Painterly, a 'nude beige'. For £13.50 you get 5 grams of product, which may not sound like a lot but a little goes a long way and after a months use I've barely made a dent. The packaging is sleek, compact and sturdy - ideal for anyone like me who manages to smash 9/10 products I chuck in my make-up bag!
Why I love it? The paint pot warms up on contact so it's incredibly easy to smooth the cream over your eyelid, blending well but once set - they don't budge! If you mess up your mascara you can apply more and blend away mistakes, it gives your eyes a wide awake, natural look while concealing veining on your eyelids and evening the skin tone and it's an ideal base for eye shadows, ensuring you're crease-free all day, shadows stay put and colours are intensified.
Only downside? If I apply too much, it causes slight creasing but this can still be blended away easily.
Simple, everday look using 'Painterly' to even out the colour of the eyelid and lighten up the whole area, leaving you with a more wide awake polished appearance.
Eyeliner, Rimmel - White
Mascara, Maybelline - The Colossal Volum' Express Cat Eyes

Haul; Illamasqua, Mac

Mac Lipstick 'Saint Germain' £13.50 - A creamy vibrant pink with a slight purple undertone. It's the only lipstick I own like it and purchased it on a whim so I had something different to wear for evenings out.
Mac Paint Pot 'Painterly' £13.50 - I originally wanted Bare Study but it looked far too shimmery for my liking. This is great for every day to ensure shadows stay put or to be used alone to cover veins and lighten lids slightly making you look more awake.
Illamasqua 'Katie' Powder Blusher £16.50 - This is my second purchase of this blusher. It's the most beautiful matte, pale pink perfect for light to medium skin tones. I cannot rate this high enough it's the only blusher I use now. Gorgeous!

NYX Rouge Cream Blush 'Glow' & 'Rose Petal'

Sorry to bombard you all with post upon post featuring NYX cosmetics but I promise these are the last products to show off from my CherryCulture 'Haul'.
At $4.75 these only cost me about £2.90 each - I know, bargain!
I'd had my eye on 'Boho Chic' for the longest time so when I found out it was out of stock I was slightly gutted and opted for 'Rose Petal' and 'Glow' instead. Of course I instantly compared these to my Mac blushcreme in 'LadyBlush', both are highly pigmented, creamy, easy to blend and have a dewy finish. The Mac blushcreme's have slightly more product (2.5g more) but that's reflected in the price, and the packaging is very similar except Mac is sturdier and more expensive looking. The consistency is pretty much identical, if anything I'd say Mac 'LadyBlush' is slightly tacky on application.
The only real difference between the NYX and Mac cream blushers is the price, at £17 Mac is a nice luxury item but if you've looking for a cheaper alternative the NYX cream blushers are just as good!

Rose Petal is a gorgeous, very flattering cool toned pink shade which is a very close match to 'ladyblush
Glow is a true deep pink, that reminds me of the classic 'English Rose' look

Favourite Blushes

I've decided to make a new series of Blog posts all focusing on my favourite items. I always find it useful seeing what other people consider as their top products so I thought I should share mine!

So, on to my favourite blushes..

Topshop Cream Blush in 'Flush'
Price: £6.00
Available from: Topshop Website

I love the packaging of the Topshop blushers, they're cute, contain a decent amount of product considering the price and include a little mirror for application. The colour is a gorgeous Barbie pink that applies like a cream but dries to a powder finish with a radiant sheen. Combined with a stippling brush, a quick dot on the cheeks will blend the product in beautifully and gives a pretty flushed look.

Natural Collection Blush in 'Pink Cloud'
Price: £1.99
Available from: Boots

Cheap, affordable matte pink blush great for anyone starting out in make-up or looking for lower priced products. It's suprisingly pigmented for the price and has a creamy formulation making it easy to blend into your skin. The colour gives a natural pretty flush on your cheeks, great for everyday use.
As you'll see from the photos I do have a tendancy to completely smash my powder blushers.

Mac Blush Creme in 'LadyBlush'
Price: £17.00
Available from: Mac

I've already posted a seperate review on this blush. I absolutely love it! I've recently re-purchased it for my mum as it's great for older women, subtly brightening their face with a youthful glow. It instantly gives a beautiful flush of colour with a dewy finish.

Beauty UK Blush in 'No.6'
Price: £2.00/2.50
Available from: Superdrug

This is another great option for those starting out in make-up or looking for affordable options. It's a pretty fuschia pink, well pigmented and blends into the skin easily. It does feel slightly gritty in the pan when you run your finger over it but once applied with a brush this doesn't present an issue.

Illamasqua Blush in 'Katie'
Price: £16.50
Available from: Illamasqua

This is my favourite blush of all time. It's a gorgeous, milky, pale shade of pink that looks amazing on anyone NC/NW 30 or below. It's finely milled, has a silky smooth texture and applies like velvet to the skin! On darker skintones it tends to be far too pale and powdery looking so I would steer clear.

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Review

What they say: 'A luxurious domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day.'
What I think:
The MSF Natural was one of my first purchases from Mac, normally I steer clear of powders. I despise the powery, cakey finish it instantly gives your skin and how it takes away from the finish of the foundation but, being blessed with combination skin and a dreaded oily t-zone I decided to pick one up anyway and it was love at first use..

What I like about these powders are how finely milled they are, they give a semi-matte finish to the skin that still allows you to look glowy and actually lets the natural finish of the founation shine through - I always saw no point in buying a luxurious foundation designed to make you appear dewy and fresh then covering it all up with powder and making it look like any other foundation. I also don't see any way you could end up cakey with this product unless you continously dusted it on your face for hours, it always seems to give just the right amount coverage and powder to mattify without being excessive.

The only things that I can think of that I could complain about is the price, it's £18.50 for 10g's of product, however these last me ages and you really do get what you pay for. After finishing my last MSF natural I decided I was going to look for a cheaper alternative, after trying out a few Maybelline and Rimmel powders I ran straight back to Mac. The only other little niggle would be that it has no mirror which would be handy for touch up's but I really like the simplistic packaging so that's not a worry either!

This is one of the few products I've actually used up and repurchased which is a big deal for me as 90% of the make-up I buy gets used occassionaly then chucked aside to be rediscovered a few months onwards!

Perfect Brow Shade For Brunettes

I've been trying to find the perfect brow combination for years. I had it down a few months ago using an unbranded angled brush that was the perfect thickness and was firm enough to create the perfect shape but not create harsh lines. The perfect brush combined with a dark shade from an Avon quad gave me the perfect brow..

But, like all things good they break, become discontinued or get lost.
In this case, Avon discontinued the eyeshadow quad and replaced it with a terrible quality, barely pigmented replacement and a moment of anger from my youngest brother led to him cutting the hairs off my angled brush.

- Sigh -

As most people reading my blog have guessed I'm incredibly picky, even with my brow products.. I don't want my eyebrows to look too light or too dark, fake, I don't want them to smudge or take too much time plus I hate any products with red or orange undertones. A matte, flat brown with a nice brush is all I ask for.

A lengthy browse around led me to picking up a 266 brush and mac's espresso eyeshadow. The brush is nice but not thick enough for my liking. The eyeshadow however, is the perfect colour - pigmented, flat matte brown that makes my sparse albino brows into well shaped pieces of art.

So, if anyone is as picking as me, brunette and looking for a flat dark brown - here you are ladies, maybe this will shorten the search for you brunettes!

Mac Mineralize Blush in 'Dainty'

I purchased Dainty blush a few months back and didn't take a fancy to it at first so it just got shoved to the back of my make-up draws. The other day when having a jumble through I found it and fell in lovvvve.

On the Mac website the blush is described as 'light yellow pink with gold pearl' in daylight it looks like a light pearlescent pink with gold flecks of shimmer through it.. beaut!

It costs £17.00 which is a bit painful for a blush but it's really pigmented so can be used with a light hand and last you ages.
